But I’m scared someone else will snatch it before then. I want it Oppo. I want it bad... Tell me this wouldn’t be the perfect partner for the Miata

I wish.
Unfortunately, I have a car coming next week evidently. My dad’s friend offered me his daily driver for college at such a low price that I put my BMW search on hold for now.

1. Call them up, be honest about your situation, give them a $500 deposit for a hold?
2. Get a loan from mom.

Looks like an M-sport package from the M on the steering wheel. I don’t know this gen of 3 series that well, but looks like a great car to me. My E90 328i and NA Miata are great friends!

Can you afford a cash deposit? Would they take one to hold it?

I can, and I hope so. I’m going to call after work and try to set up a time to view the car. If there aren’t any red flags I’ll bring up a deposit

It’s an easy fix. You just unbolt the steering column and bolt it in right side up. It’s a fairly common issues. Can you believe a BMW tech wanted 1200 for the job? I bet my mechanic will do it for half that!

Sport seats too?
I have those wheels on my ‘03 325 wagon. I mean, I bought them from a guy who drove a ‘98 or ‘99 328i because I like them that much. I even transferred them from my ‘01 to my ‘03 when I sold it...
Nice car. Go talk to the seller.

The BlueMazda2 seal of approval is guaranteed with the purchase of every BMW.
I’m hoping it doesn’t sell. You deserve it, bro. I hope you’re able to get it. That Miata needs company.
Also, yay, somebody cares about my seal of approval!

I’ve got about 1500 now, really hoping he’ll except a deposit. We’ll see!
How did the two generations compare? I started looking for an e30 coupe, the E36 just came up by chance at a killer price

I wanted a e36 328i coupe for a while and based on what I saw on the market, this looks pretty damn good for the money. Good luck, I hope it doesn’t sell.

Be lucky this is in Seattle and I’m in St. Louis or else I’d be buying it ASAP. I hope it’s as mint in person as it is in the ad photos!

Sweet! Fingers crossed :)
Much preferred the E36. The E46 was faster no doubt about it, but it just felt a bit like a normal car which I’m sure many people would like but just isn’t for me. There’s no real drama or excitement about going fast in it, which for me just makes it a little tedious. Oh, and the throttle-response is downright diabolical which is the main complaint. Apparently it’s only present on the later cars, but it genuinely feels like BMW has dialled in 1" of slack on their virtual throttle cable, such that you press the pedal lightly and f*ck all happens, and then you mash it and it finally starts going. No finesse. No immediacy. Hopeless.
All of that could probably be fixed pretty promptly with an exhaust to make it sound as fast as it is, and a software patch to sort the drive-by-wire, but it just put me off the car more than I expected.
Compared to that I rather liked the E36. Ever so slightly closer to the lighter ‘box with a big engine’ that the E30 is. Don’t remember noticing anything funky about the throttle response. It was on cheap ditchfinders though so I couldn’t work out quite how far you can push it in the corners but it felt nice and balanced (in credit to the E46, so did that).
tl;dr Would recommend the E36 to an enthusiast. Would recommend the E46 to an enthusiast only after they’ve fixed what makes it a little boring compared to the E36.
